Double Yes

The two basic instructions which a computer has to work with are ‘yes’ and ‘no’.  ‘Yes’ and ‘no’ form an extremely logical set of operators, where there is little room for doubt. Considering this limitation, all the film material used in Double Yes has been cut, to show only those parts where a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’ is expressed.
The installation Double Yes consists of 20 portable 8.5” dual dvd screens, 3 Mini Macs and a variable amount dvd players.  These elements are placed in situ.  The films appearing on the screens are a combination of  small loops of found footage and specifically recorded material. On the Mini Macs specially written software is installed, manipulating the succession of the frames by their binary translation. This happens in a two step fashion: two frames forward, one frame backward. In this way, a seemingly doubting system is generated.
